I've worked in flooring for years and years and am still yet to see the point of laminate flooring, do you guys think that it's a dying tread especially with all the recent buzz for luxury vinyl tiles ?

Nobody I see wants laminate it's either engineered or lvt. Recently though including a quote I've done today they have questioned the texture so it feels like wood rather than smooth. I only showed this client karndean but out of all of them it was only the art select that he felt had a texture to it

You need to see distinctive lvt's mate, many have texture, also some with registered embossing or grain embossed finishes. Laminate looks to cheap these days?

Laminate does that's why I dont like it. Will be looking more at your ranges as it has been mentioned a bit on the forum.

Quickstep is the only flooring product that I've never had a problem with and every job looks good! I think cheap laminates are a complete waste of money but the better quality ones are great. Also a lot cheaper for the customer

Yea you can't go wrong with quick step unless Internet sellers are killing the margins to be honest, although it may be the only brand that will survive the lvt increase !! Dazza I cover your area if you ever wanna discuss mate.

Just like they do with Amtico and karndean and every other type of floorcovering. B and q will have it soon, then the shops will be squeezed.

I fit laminate 3 times a week, its not as booming as it was but a good quality laminate is easy to fit and looks just as good as lvts a shop I work for occasionally puts customers of lvt by saying "if you need to get under the floorboards you ruined your floor" and it works,
from a fitters point of view laminate can be a good, fast earner also there can limited prep work which customers sometimes go for when they don't want a job to drag out.

Internet are killing the margins on lvt dramatically, that's one reason why the shop I work for occasionally turns them away from lvt as they can get it cheaper of the net he now sells the Chene or pergo no quickstep as people buy cheap off net also b and q have a cheaper range of qs out just for them.

Internets killing it all but luckily people still like one company to supply and fit rather than buying from Internet and finding someone to fit for them.

Everything is getting hit on the Internet especially the bigger brands, quick step own pergo, elka etc but seem to manage to keep them of the net but not the brand quick step, why? Because its more well known, same as amtico etc, its an ongoing battle which doesn't help by fitters who need the work, then being happy to fit only when their customers have gone elsewhere for the material but as the fitter is last man in, first man blamed when an issue comes up.
