We have about 345 linear meters of cap and cove to put on in corridors in a school but when we pulled off the existing sit-on cove, it also pulled off a lot of the old paint and theres about 3 layers of the stuff. Our gaff thinks the best solution would be to sand it off as best we can with an orbital sander and prime with latex but I'm a bit skeptical. Anyone have any other ideas how we can go about this to make sure its done right. Its receiving Marmoleum real so needs to be pretty spot on. Thanks
Defo get all the old paint off Sand it or scrape it off or what ever works ! Priming the bottom of the wall will help but I wouldn't use latex Probably P131 I normally repair any damage to the bottom of the walls & internal & external corners with A45 I get sick of telling plasters & builders to go right to the bottom of the walls when I'm doing C&C I end up spending more time patching up the walls than fitting the vinyl
In defence of the plasterers, they won't go to the bottom as they will pick debris and it'll be game over or should I say all over the plaster.. No different than us lot not cleaning around the edges when screeding, you drag all the crap from edges..
No I've pretty much got the plasters I work with going to the bottom now & I'm getting some very nice internal & external corners to work with ! I'll tweet you a pick coz I'm on my phone !
I have a tub of p131 there actually. Ill take your advice and use that instead of the latex. Thanks for the advice lads.
