nope, it doesn't take 'that' much more time and the job it leaves is way superior.

    tightness around the edges
the cheap stuff you wont notice tbh
But the decent gear, you notice the dif between one thats been stretched or kicked esp round the edges by the gripper etc
im anal like that and have eyes like a hawk lol

And me, see things that others would never notice, normally only do mid range stuff though, always worried about shrinkage and crapply fitted skirtings with a P/S. particularly with a cheapy belgium wilton!!

I've only recently joined the power stretcher gang and all I can say is you'll be amazed at how much stretch you can actually get out of a carpet with one, creates a very tuaght, neat finish, but I only use it on big rooms, woven and the rock hard secondary stuff. Yeehah

I always got told that gripper in front of a plate is a big no no, premature wearing of the carpet as it's in the place with most traffic, I have seen this happen on a Axminster where gripper is put in front or the door plate and it wore out pretty quick! Id think a Wilton would do the same.

Using crap gripper and underlay this can happen but proper gripper underlay with the correct tension and it'll wear just as well with or without and use raised base plates not the standard ones, plus could have been a bad batch of carpet causing problem

It wore out with just constant walking over the gripper, it were supplied and fitted by a reputable company my way on, carpet looked great just not in the doorway.
