The tiles should come up possibly the reason the screed has failed only problem lifting the tiles is the bitumen adhesive may be the dpm if so the concrete may need digging up and replacing or the floor gets asphalted then a floorfitters screed after priming
The initial light coloured screed seems fine which would indicate it stuck to the tiles fine.... It's the dark coloured screed he's used to level parts of the floor that is cracking. Problem is if he takes up the dark screed the floor will be more uneven.... Can he take up the dark screed without damaging the lighter coloured initial screed underneath?
Floor will need grinding or scabbling to remove addy residue before priming and screeding, as for addy used depends who fitted them if he was old school may still be bitumen based
am I the only one that is not putting my 2p worth here because we don't know the FULL STORY.. I for one would like to see pictures of the floor, amongst other things, before I give any advice. I appreciate as the customer that you have your own opinions, mostly based on internet browsing various posts etc but we ALL need the full story before we can properly advise you best... pictures can tell 1000 words etc
It's about 2 sq meters showing hair line cracks , only one of the cracks sounds hollow... Other 48 sq metres looks fine
Very much agree with cool...Also 48 square metres seem fine and only 2 metres showing problems!!?? The 2 metres being the added slc...I certainly wouldn't chuck anyone off a job for that.. Although I do understand the time restraints but the lads diary shouldn't be your problem to be honest..
The floor isn't perfectly level even after the 2nd lot of screeding he's done but tbh I'll live with the odd bit of uneven ness if only he can get the job done. Reclon within a few weeks I'll have other things on my mind than the flooring..... cracks are approx 1-2mm.... area sorry is probably 3 sq metres with similar cracks.... I'm trying to do this without my wife sussing what I'm up to at the moment so not to stress her out!
If the newer screed is cracking and sounding hollow then you should in theory be able to get a blade scraper on it and the get it up without too much trouble, sounds like it may have sheared off, for what its worth im also surprised nobody has mentioned this in the thread, what screed takes 24 hours to dry at a depth of 14mm?? as to build up 14mm even with a cheap latex wouldnt take that long, I can put down tremco at 14mm and its dry in 2 hours to walk on and well dry to fit on next day, sounds like either a water based rapid screed over watered or contaminated bags, one being a fitter error the other being a shop/supplier issue.
That doesn't look good, they will probably get bigger in the next few day of there is a problem. I wouldn't want it covered up too quick, make sure it doesn't spread over more areas.
Those are canny cracks ? How much of the floor is like that ? Defo need to see if it gets worse but I still think its not good at all
