I do mainly domestic as far as carpets are concerned but have been asked to quote for some pub carpets.

Can anyone give me some pointers and things I should be taking into account apart from going for an 80/20?

    Thanks.

Yeah I'd use something from jhs. Heavy contract carpet.

If you are going to use JHS stuff stay away from their tartans/plaids the selvedges are always to tight.

Whitestone weavers do some good axminsters. Competitive in price as well. You'll pay approx £25-£30 m2.

Thanks for all the replies, I went to look at this job and need to match it to carpet that was laid about 15 years ago (good chance of that then)!

The carpet is 27" wide and I'm thinking this could be a lot of work (not that I'll actually be doing it). The area is approx. 8.5 meters square and the sub floor feels quite rough in places under the existing carpet.

Would I be best advised to A. go for two 5mtr. wide pieces with one join
    B. use a carpet 27" wide and seam
    C. give the job to someone else?

You wont get many 5m axminsters that I know of but if you could make up the extra m2 to 100m2 then "Lano" would do a bespoke design for you.

I dont think you'll find many 27" carpet manufacturers that will make 8.5 sq mtrs.unless they have a stock selection
I think the last pub i done,i rang Cavalier carpets, they had an axminster they made for a boat but for some reason they cancelled it,so i got it alot cheaper,i had it all sewn up then fitted it,i have done about 4 pubs now and have always used 27" and had it sewn up
Ring around Brintons,Ulster they might have some old bales about they might want to shift at a cheaper price
