    Hi

Just god 2 quick Karndean questions for the experts on the forum

Apart from the thicker plank, bevelled edge and longer guarantee is there any benefits of choosing Art Select over Van Gogh

For example the summer oak and classic oak are very similar, in fact you can hardly tell them apart side by side.

Finally we were planning on having classic oak or summer oak in our hallway and autumn oak in the dining room which is off the main hallway.

Do you think this would look ok as some installers have said it would look better if it was all the same colour, and they also mentioned that where the van gogh and art select planks would join at the door between the hallway and dining room would be slightly different height levels?

Van gogh and art select are the same thickness , 3mm. It probably would look better the same colour but as I always say it's all down to personal choice. I think in a domestic location van gogh would be more than suitable.

Hi Van Gogh & Art select are both 3mm thick but yes art select has a beveled edge. If both meet at your door & are cut into each other then there's no hight difference but VG could also be beveled to meet the beveled edge of AS !
I like to use a design strip between to break up the two different floors but thats personal preference.

The differences are first the wear layer thickness AS is 0.7mm & VG is 0.55 doesn't sound a lot but this is what protects the pattern layer in the tiles & how tuff they are but both are suitable for commercial use like shops ect.. so they are are both more than suitable for a domestic environment.
Both have a different look, texture & colour designs & patterns. If you've looked at two samples of a similar colour doesn't mean youll get a similar end result as plank colour & look varies from plank to plank & also are made in batches like wall paper so a sample or sample board could look a slightly different colour to your finished floor but always look better completed than in a sample !

As for keeping the same range & colour throughout I would agree it does look better & more classy but that's personal preference ?

    Hope this helps

Personally coming from a rep who works for an lvt manufacture I would have it all the same, a bevelled edge is so important in my eyes to gain an 'plank' look of the floor, it looks so much better once created by their approved installers. If your prepared to spend the money, spend it wisely once and be certain your happy with it.

As the others have said there is no overall height difference. One of things that my customers prefer is the surface effect that Art Select has. Rather than an over ripple texture like Van Gogh, the Art Select has a hand scraped finish which looks that bit more realistic. From a guarantee point of view, in a domestic location Van Gogh is plenty suitable as Danny has said. I have fitted Van Gogh in restaurants and cafes and even did an entire veterinary practice!

Have you taken some samples home and looked at them in location? Always worth doing to see how your light conditions affect the shading of the planks. Remember and stand back from them and see how the light shines across the planks and shows up the grain/texture.

    Good Luck

P.S. Where are to based? Maybe one of the guys on here could do the job for you and advise at the same time :)

Fitted loads of art select plank and IMO its well more realistic looking than
VG. I've also got art select plank at home and Think its great, But wear layer wise it's quite easy to scratch , but the funny thing is have u lads layed art select tile ,it's wear layer is much tougher than the plank. Almost like a ceramic . I fitted a kitchen dinner in it a few years ago and went back recently and there's not even one micro scratch anywhere and they have dogs and kids etc... Really rate the art select tile.

    Hi

    Thanks all for your advice.

I think we will go for the art select for the hallway (my wife liked the VG classic oak) but looking at the samples I quite like the Autumn Oak and Auburn Oak but that's just in parquet style. Is Auburn oak the same tile as Dawn Oak?

We have been to the Karndean HQ and had some samples, it colour wise there is very little in it looking at for example

VG classic oak and Art Select Summer Oak are very similar?

And is the Art Select plank more slippery than the VG, as to touch the VG feels more of a rough textured finish, where the art select seems highly polished

We have young children so we want a floor that's going to be hard wearing and what can withstand a battering from toys, chairs etc especially in our dining room/family room so that's why we are looking at Karndean VG or Art Select instead of carpet which we have at the moment.

Surely karndean hq would have advised you ? Or did they in true manufacture style say 'all there products are perfect!' Personally although I believe strongly in a bevel, art select only in some options can look a bit 'plastic' I think there are some nice rustic textured finishes in the art select that will look great and look more realistic.
Have I said that distinctive flooring luxury vinyl tiles are the best !!! Registered embossed finishes like no other for that engineered wood look and feel !! :p

Yes, Dawn Oak is the plank version of Auburn Oak and does look very nice down. It's a different size plank to the Summer Oak, Autumn Oak and Van Gogh range. It still benefits from the improved texture that all the Art Select woods have over Van Gogh.

There is no slip difference between the ranges. The texture is not created by the top surface, it comes from within the make up of the product and then coated with the wear layer.

It's very important that before you make your purchase you are aware that the product will show signs of use. It is not bullet proof and is not scratch proof. There are a lot of folk that think once you buy the product it will look after itself and never shows signs of wear. It WILL however look newer for longer than most other textile options on the market, the scratches it will pick up will in most cases be light surface scuffs. It will give your children a good hygenic surface to play about on. In the event of an accident leaving an area of floor damaged, the planks can be lifted and replaced with new ones to return your floor to looking new without the expense of a complete new floor.

As for colours, why not consider using 2 shades and combining a design between the 2 areas? Blonde Oak Parquet for the hall floor with a 30mm Auburn Oak border finished with Spring Oak round the outside. Then fit Auburn Oak in the dining room, on a 45 degree angle with 30mm Spring Oak border and finished with Auburn Oak round the outside? Maybe over the top for some folk but it is after designer flooring ;-)

You could always scrap the Karndean idea and look into distinctive flooring. Great product !!

Was speaking to an installer today he told me that in his opinion the Van Gogh (Classic Oak) is a better product than the Art Select (Summer Oak / Dawn Oak / Autumn Oak) and its not worth the extra money.

He thought that the Art Select looked less realistic than the Classic Oak as the Art Select looks plastic in certain light because of the coating it has on the planks.

Each to their own, I personally disagree as I have already fitted Summer Oak in my folks sun room. They had a real wood floor but wanted to cut down on the upkeep so they went for Summer Oak as it is Karndeans most realistic range. The finish is to replicate an old wax build up hence the sheen.

What sort of price sqm should we be looking at for

Art select with tramline border, ply sub base featured edge
    And same for Van Gogh

With the art select range is it less durable ie prone to scratching than the Van Gogh with young children playing on it, dragging toys etc

Is the art select worth the extra cash over Van Gogh?

We don't post prices only advice sorry but it won't be cheap but I'm sure it will look fantastic !
As for scratches you can scratch any flooring so have a good door matt & use felt pads under furniture feet/legs & don't drag heavy things over the floor.

My whole house is done with Karndean & Amtico. I have 2 cats & 2 dogs running round all day & regularly entertain friends & family. My floor looks great

I'm just guessing, are you buying online? Cos these are the questions your retailer should cover. Art Select is the heaviest range Karndean make and therefore most durable. If you look at previous comments Art Select has a thicker wear layer than Van Gogh.

No way VG better than AS . Or it wouldn't be double the price would it. AS well better IMO ,you get what you pay for.
