was sent to a job today 2 bedrooms/hall and lounge the existing carpet was stapled down and a cheap felt back which is fraying and badly fitted the customer wanted this uplifted then underlay and gripper laid under it and the old felt back relaid on top walked away from it as there was no hope it would fit s already short at edges (even double banking gripper wouldnt have helped i dont think) and didnt fancy powerstretching a felt back there was no movement available on width of carpet although i reckon i might have just got the length stretched onto gripper and no more without a tuck down what would you chaps have done or tried to do in this circumstance as dont want a row with my boss over this for walking away
haha true but ill be sent back this week so looking for solution but in my opionion it aint going to work common sense should tell you that as its been fitted already straight to the deck
Can't fit the impossible. I'd of walked but would of talked it through with customer first and explained my reasons.
yeh this was done also just a pity as dont like walking away from jobs but there was no strech whatsoever on the width of the carpet
Tell em to change the carpet, wouldn't even attempt to do that job what happens in a weeks time if it pops off the gripper whilst hoovering coz you can't get a good tuck, opening yourself up to liability you don't want.
If you turned up to a job and the carpet had been fitted short an inch all the way round would you fit just because the customer "thinks" it can be done? Explain the situation as you are not a miracle worker and if they start ask them how they can make something out of nothing (I know females can but that is another story!"
days lost wages but impracticle to think its been fitted straight to floor then all of a sudden oh underlay and gripper will work or am i the only one that thinks this is impossible
Would have done the same... When you try and do the job and it DOES go wrong, whos the customer going to blame!
Technically felt back carpets should not be stretched more than you can with a cork board. Personally i think this is rubbish and they do need a stretch but there is stretching and then stretching to MAKE it fit. Asking for trouble and it will slowly shrink back.
Tough one mate. You lost money but you knew it wouldn't work. Why didn't your boss check the job out properly before sending you?
The only thing I can think of as a 'keep your fingers crossed solution' is to ditch the gripper and double stick the lot! at least the carpet wont be any further away from the skirting board!
