We use a space heater in the warehouse. Anything electric will be expensive to run.

The shop is heated by 3x 3k electric heaters and it costs way too much.

My 2p as i have had a bit of experience with heating different size units over the years.

    You basically have 3 choices.

    1- Electric
    2- Gas Boiler
    3- Gas Blowers

Electric pros - Quiet and effective, very cheap to install (plug them in)
Electric cons- Very Expensive to run. We was heating FloorSkills with Electric and was costing around £90 per day ! , take up floor space

Gas Boiler pros- Quiet and effective, simple to add extra radiators, water heater, cheap to run.
Gas Boiler cons- Expensive to install, need a gas supply, take up floor / wall space

Gas Blowers pros- mount up high so dont take up floor space, cheap to install, very fast heating, very efficient, cheap to run (floorskills uses these now, cost is £7.50 a day)
Gas Blower cons- Noisy (noisy while heating the area but go quiet when maintaining the temperature)

Biggest problem people have is no gas supply. At floorskills we had no gas supply so i went for electric heaters last year. We have now had a Gas tank installed by calor gas. Supprised at just how cheap it was also -

2000 litre tank supplied and installed = £32 a quarter rent. FREE bottle, FREE install.
For me at FloorSkills it now cost me around £7.50 per day to heat the training centre (60'000 cubic ft) . it was costing £90 per day using electric.

I also have a retail shop with a warehouse. There we use a boiler and and radiator system. Works out cheap but was expensive to install. The biggest cost is the boiler. For floorskills i looked into a boiler and the boiler would of been the size of some people bathrooms so we went the much cheaper route of the gas blowers. Im very happy with how they preform.

    back to this one again...
Trying to work out what kind of output to keep temp to an acceptable level (17* etc)
initially thinking of storage heaters on cheap overnight tariff, for use during day etc
Cant seem to work out how many rads i'll need for 85m2 odd:confused:

The company I used to work for bought storage heaters, 3 big barstewards and they were useless unless you were within 2 feet of them. Plus the space they took up was rediculous. Mike, would the bathroom guys you fit for not cut you a wee deal on installing an oil system with some radiators and a basic boiler? A lot of the time if they are installing a new boiler the old one can be reconditioned and you can get yourself a bargain. Depending on your layout the boiler could be fitted in the kitchen or perhaps out the back with the external hood fitted, just whatever would save you space. Also lets you keep a monitor on your usage when you need to refill the oil. When you look for the radiators don't waste money on single or P+ types, go for the doubles, far better spread of heat.
