Customer is buying some solid bamboo from B&Q they recommended it to be fitted on sticky underlay but ice just rang them and they say it's a tongue and groove click system so I'm a bit confused. Would it be advisable to use a wood glue aswell as the underlay or will just doing it glue system be ok. Its so difficult trying to arrange a job when the customer doesn't know what there on about and B&Q aren't much help
It can't be click and t + g ... Can it ?? After 10 years doing woods I'm proper confused ... I try and walk away from shed floors ... Too much hassle ... What I normally do (while some fitters might disagree) is any wood about 18mm thick I would glue down (concrete) and t + g I would secret nail it or some floors screw (floorboards) ... Anything below 18mm thick I would float with underlay ... Personal I would do that but a lot fitters have might float all .. I don't ...
fit it it how the manufacturer tells you mate. I don't like solid click systems so I would never supply them but if they get a problem with it you need to fit it to their guidelines to cover yourself
Don for gods sake float it .. either full stick or secret nail . Sticky underlay is a pile of crap looks easy but its not.
total agreement wit oddz on that the elastilon type u'lay is a f00kin 'mare to use... stear clear mate... as per Merit - fit to the manufacturers spec. but if in doubt fully bond the f00ker...
its 14mm stuff to be honest the bloke I spoke to at b&q didn't know his head from his arse, they recommended it be stuck on the sticky underlay crap which I have used once in the past and its a nightmare. like you say I don't know how it can be t&g and click so im confused to lol
ive never actually fully stuck a solid what glue would you suggest im assuming its not really any different to fitting wood normally just setting out and gluing say 4/5 rows at a time ?
Yea pretty much... But make sure there is enough weight on the floor when you put it down so u get a full bond... I always would dry fit 4 -5 rows throughout the job then pull part then glue.... Some fitters seen me do this and laugh cos it takes longer but if your goner do a job do it proper so u don't get come backs... I no odd said don't float it but if it's 14mm I would/have floated on a good underlay.
To be honest I like lay bonds L16 it's cheap and good to clean off your tools even after I cleaned it off 10 days later... Boiled water and it was off.. Only downside is after a while it hurts your hands spreading it... ( I am a wimp) F balls b92 or something that is a good adhesive but it is expensive
Bamboo planks areonly 90mm wide if you float itit can look like a wavey mess .i have fitted quite a bit of bamboo and would always fully bond even if its a click system acctualy especialy if its a click system. iuse floorwise f539 to glue down. Why would you risk floating it.
tbh i havent fitted alot of bamboo but the ones that i have say to float it... Under 18mm.... and isnt bamboo like one of the fastest growing woods around?? i personally would be cautious gluing.. and i havent seeen 18mm+ bamboo maybe im wrong but ive never had a issue.
The customer has ordered the materials including the stick down underlay which is what B&Q have advised it to be fitted on so I will have to go with there recommendation to cover myself
