Hi I am stuck! I have just bought a 2 bed maisonette with stairs (1st & second floor).... To ask my question I need to describe the flat... Open the front door on ground floor and up it's own private stairs. The first floor is the main area which has a bathroom, living room and kitchen and large hall area at the top of the stairs. The bedrooms are on the next floor. My problem, which is giving me sleepless nights. Is, I'd like wooden floors in the rooms on the first floor, and carpet on the stairs... so what do i put down in the hall? Do i match the wood to the rooms, or the carpet to the stairs? and If the wood of the hall is the first flooring you meet from the stairs - which is what I would like, how do you finish this against the top of the last step in from the stairs? Will be buying top notch insulator. I am searching online for landing pictures to get some idea what to do or what looks good. But i cant find anything. If anyone has been in a similar position or could point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful. Many thanks, Rachel
why not put carpet on the stair treads then a nosing and match the stair risers to to wood flooring by using it glued to the risers, i have done many like this and it looks great also it ties everything in together but its not something you can do yourself .find a local independant flooring company who can undertake this for you.
