A bathroom fitter I know who does disability toilets etc for the council has been doing the wet floors himself for years, but now the council have told him he has to be certified in laying wet floors, asked him exactly what they meant by certified but he didn't know and has asked me if I would do them for him but not sure of the certification required, anyone else heard of this?

There is two types of certification they are talking about.

    - There is NVQ. But the NVQ is not specific to wet rooms. The NVQ is a qualification in Impervious flooring.
    - There is a CITB accreditation. This is specific to wet rooms etc. However its relatively new and NOBODY has actually passed yet in wet rooms.

Problem is the flooring trade is years behind other trades. for some reason the flooring trade knows of the certification (NVQ) they should have but we turn a blind eye to it. The nvq for example is biting a lot of people in the arse now. The accreditation is going to follow behind.

just to add, the council are going this way. Most of the fitters on our cap + cove course are doing the course as the council wants them to have certificates and a NVQ.

SO just because you work for a council at the moment with out issues does not mean you wont have a issue next week, year etc.

council's dont give a crap if you was doing there floors for last 20 years, if someone at the council decides they want you qualified then your work will stop straight away untill you are qualified. they are all starting to do the same.

So basically the council are wanting nvq qualified? so who would the suubies show their paper work too?

Its a strange one as I said because one bathroom fitter was told last week that he couldn't do any more floors yet i got the go ahead with another fitter for 3 with the same council with no issues being raised. I'll speak to him over the next couple of days and try and find out or even phone the council and see what they say.

I have heard that the council wants all fitters with cscs but not sure about nvq but you need both now anyway.
