Hi everyone, First things first, I'm a consumer and have no floor laying skills other than throwing down laminate & quickstep tiles over the years. We've just had our lounge/ dining room/ hallway renovated and have purchased karndean (van gogh range) to put on the floor everywhere instead of the existing carpet (we've got it in our upstairs bathroom and think it's great). The existing subfloor is concrete and in very good condition (house is 20 years old). The problem is that laying the karndean onto the existing subfloor, with the latex prep is going to leave a rather noticeable gap under the doors/ around skirting etc - I reckon about a 1 inch gap under the doors. So, what can we do? I'm hoping this is an easy (and cheap???) problem to resolve. I was thinking either raise the subfloor up with some form of self-levelling compound OR lay ply everywhere? We have a pro with a good reputation coming round tomorrow, but I wanted to get some ideas to discuss with him. Cheers for any advice anyone can give, Paul
Either raise the level of the sub or lower the skirts ! Your expert can advise you best when he or she assess your floor
Thanks chaps. I like the look of the jumpax - but its pretty expensive (our floor is 60m2) - our floor guy didn't recommend ply as he says after a few years it'll begin to get "clicky" underfoot. He hadn't used the jumpax stuff. He said he could use an extra-thick layer of latex prep and for the large gaps can use some discrete beading so we'll see how that pans out (fingers crossed) Paul
