    Hi Guys,

I just had a phone call from yell.com.

My free listing with Yell.com includes a link to our website and I have noticed that the position of each company is randomly fluctuated by them to make it fair.

The salesman offered me a permanent top position in this list for my area if I agreed to buy a product such as a website or business information page.

My usual response is to politely reject any unsolicited sales calls like this but as Yell seem to be getting more prominent lately, I told him that I was too busy and asked him to call me back another time.

Anyone had any experience with them?

How many big companies are in your area the big companies will be spending thousands and thousands to be top of page first page etc, if your are 5 or lower on page 1 I would say In my opinion its not worth paying mega money as how many customers wont waste there time phoning and getting 5 or more quotes, stick with the free listing and spend the money you were thinking about spending on yell on advertising in other areas near you that are more local, but thats just my opinion

Haha I seem to be making a habit of replying to your posts....

In a nutshell, waste of money...

I was paying them £120 a month for places 1 and 2 in two different areas local to me and they were accounting for 10% of my traffic through my website. I was paying my web designer the same money for SEO through social media (twitter and Facebook) and I was nearly top on all the searches I wanted and done properly, no link farming etc...

Told this to yell.com on renewal and they said 'we don't give discounts even if you spend £..... , at that point I told the agent thanks for his time and concluded our meeting.

No wonder there going down the pan, changing there name to hibu etc....

Just to add to this a good web designer and website analytics (hope I've spelt that right) are worth there weight in gold.

Like the others said youd be better investing the money in your websites seo then using yell.com, id wager most people will do as most people I know do and simply google what they are after instead of going through the yell.com

I'm already the top position under the pay-per-click listings in the champagne area for the territory I cover and yell.com is immediately below me. The positions in the list of companies on the Yell.com site are frequently changed and what this guy was offering was to guarantee top position.

I have decided to carry on with just the free listing for now and think my money would be better spent elsewhere.
