pinched from another site. Latest rumours from the grapevine: the Carpet Rights in South Wales are about to lower the fitting rate and raise the amount you pay them to work there. They also intend to make the customer pay the store and the fitter will now bill Carpet Right and wait for their money. They are also making the fitters cut doors (for £10) with a specified door saw of their choice. They have a list of tools that you will have to have on your van or you will not be allowed to work there as they will be having once a week van inspections.All fitters will have to attend a screed and hardboarding course even if you can do it already at a cost of between £200 and £300, if you do not do the course you will have no work. woohoo sign me up!
I've heard that too. They had a road show near me to say that they're all it it together. Joke. Surely this is all the evidence manufactures need to roll out a quality control on fitter or something?
They've always carried out van checks, I'd be surprised if all fitting money went via the shop for vat reasons.
van checks started a few yrs ago, was to make sure fitters wernt making off with bags of underlay, boxes of gripper etc
Are the fitters still paying the £8 a day 'administration' to work there. Probably more now as that's what a fitter told me about 2 years ago.
Fitters are required to do a hardboard/screed day for about £140ish. They will have to cut doors but at the moment most stores have a fitter they use on those jobs. This is from a fitter working for them at the moment
That was stopped. Also a few managers wasn't passing the payments on. Also some were taking a percentage of 'nice work' they were passing to favourite fitters.
All fitters have to do the floor prep course in conjunction with FITA or you can't work for them also have to do NVQ level 2 as well. Insurance and finance work has to be billed by the fitter but normal work is payed for by customer. I worked for them for 17 years but left last summer to concentrate on my own supply business. The local store to me rang the other day to see if i could give them a regular Wednesday but i would have to attend the floor prep course! I told them i had a certificate from Floor skills for a floor prep course but they said this wasn't acceptable as it had to be FITA! Lol i declined their offer
and what happens if you already have a fita cert that you've done off your own back? will they still say you have to do it through them?!? big mistake fita aligning themselves with the likes of those scumbags imo

How much of it did you believe?, most of the things they spoke about . had been talked of at previous meetings Most of the fitters at our meeting mentioned that the minimum price was far to low ! that we needed the correct fixings supplied by CR ( wider range of door bars and short pin , long pin gripper ) but these issues were skipped over , just like the last meetings I personally dont see things changing
the main thing being they havent turned to bill the store so we will still be cash rich so thats a boost my van clutch went on sat night just getting it back in a hour so all cash helps me just now as for it changing time will tell personally we all need to sing from the same hymn sheet so too speak i personally hoover not on all jobs but 60% but i know fitters who dont even own a hoover in their vans
Just completed their "Training and assessment" course (£153 inc vat) for floor prep and door trimming. I had to go to Dublin to it (as did alI the fitters from N.Ireland ) needed to stay over and change money to euros, so all in all expensive enough. It was interesting enough but as I already do this I didn't learn much. One fitter has never done any thing like this got a bit flustered with the template cutting and said he couldn't be arsed Two set's of fitters from one branch took a holiday to avoid the course (total of five fitters) so it be interesting to see if they are offered work, never known them to get rid of any fitter not doing their coarse. One fitter at another branch saw this as the last straw and walked.
One of my mates was there in deen and he told me that cptright now expect you to have an nvq as well as the fita cert So does that mean if you only do the fita course in textlles that you'll only get to fit cpts? no laminate or vinyls? Or do they expect you lot to do all of the coures to be able to fit all the materials? Or is it a one-stop-course where '1 course does all' (suspect much) Also CRB checked (old news)
