Hi, I have used F46 with karndean in past but never over ufh. Now have a job next week which I'm unsure which adhesive to use. A 2.7m small bathroom on concrete 3rd floor of 10 yr old flats. Removing heated towel rail and fan heater as both useless and customer wants elec ufh so looking to use 150w per m2 rated 2m2 mat from theunderfloorheatingstore which will go onto their 10mm backerboard which will be affixed with their rapid flexi tile addy then covered with their ufh compatible slc to about 10mm depth then karndean warm oak knight tile laid on top after a day or so if it's ready to take it. Not sure to use f46 PS or a HT adhesive. My concern with PS is tenting because the ufh will be on a timer for mornings and probably partial evenings not at a constant temperature. Also concerned on drying time for the SLC at this time of year in a flat with storage heaters but little in the way of bathroom heating. I wondered if anyone here was a regular fitter of these vinyls over elec ufh and what advice or recommendations they might have. Thanks, Mark.
High temp for me Remember to get them switch off the UFH before you start then build it up to temp gradually once you're finished.
I did one of these a few months ago but we put down 2 coats of 700 then stuck the tiles with f46. Not had a problem
Jambo I've got the whole refit to do so the heating will be in my control, well hopefully. Hi Merit yes 700 superflex would be similar stuff to use and I'd heard some do two coats, one to cover wires then another to build a barrier depth instead of pouring one deep one. Did you prime the backer boards before pouring and how deep was the 700 in the end before you laid and how soon after did you stick them down. Did you trowel then roll the F46 or just trowel out? Thanks Mark
It was a small toilet area and we poured in the bucket both times so were not talking 3mm coats! Like you say it's around 10mm but really get most of it in the first hit. We primed the board ufh/ with the ufh company's own primer.
I was contemplating damming and sealing the area then mixing and pouring 2 bags in one at a time, could possibly do 3 bags, it'll go to 50mm apparently. What type and size roller do you use then Merit and trowel size A2?
Yeah as long as the sides are blocked up pour away, a2 and a foam roller, the little gloss ones for small jobs or the big uzin ones for larger jobs
Main concern would be tiles expanding and tenting on the F46, HT is said to be good to 27 degrees but the bond can fail over that and peeps can whack these ufh systems up sometimes
I done a conservatory over UFH. 16m2. Used mapei renovation to seal in the wires, and went back the following day and gave another decent coating of renovation. Worked well
Mapei renovation looks a good price and product too. I'm fairy happy with the levelling over the ufh just fretting over the adhesive choice. If the customer had gone for ceramics I'd have 3mm slc covered the cables, flexi addy tiled and grouted without any concern for a call back, LVT and UFH gets me worrying,, lol
looking to order in marmox, slc and Mapei Keraquick flexi ady (also couple bags for the wall tiling as well as securing marmox) I came across Mira X Plan SLC at pureadhesion.co.uk for £12.50 a bag, obviously there's pallet cost on it all as its not local to me in Oxfordshire but probably give that a try with 3 bags. Spoke with guy at F Ball about some 2 year out of date F46 I had stored, more out of interest really, the helpful chap said if it was off you'd notice that it smelt really funny and would be bacteria! so a H&S risk but if stored okay the adhesion or open time will be fine. The Shelf life is about the fact that they have no idea what conditions it'll be stored in when it leaves them. Interesting!
