Had a builder contact me. He wants to reduce the height of a concrete slab by 30mm.

    Anyone done this?
Thinking a scabbler is the way to go.

    Wow, have fun !
That will take some time with a scabbler, or anything else.
We have scabbled down falls for showers before, but nothing that big.

Sounds nightmarish...personally i'd let the builder get the levels right, otherwise if you do it and its not right or there are problems further down the line then the onus is on you...

That will be a big job with a scabbler that . I'd rather pull hairs from my b&@&ocks. Tell him sorry you should of got your levels right in first place.

Is it a builder who you get regular work off? I mean I could see your point doing it if you want to keep in with him . I have builders who I would do similar tasks for because in long run it will serve you well, but if it's a builder who you don't know I'd KO it. Or put a mega price on for it.

How deep I'd the concrete mate? Would it not be easier to break the whole lot out and start again?
I can't se a scrabbled doing that, it took me ages just to get the bitumen off the floor with one.
You would probably need a sit on concrete planer to do that much and a lot of room!!

    Slabs 130mm thick.
The part the builder wants lowered is the original slab of the only remaining original part of the house. The floor area is being increased x3.
He wants to drop the height to tie in with the rest of what will be the new part. Wants to put insulation, wet ufh, top screed.
Yep, gives me a reasonable amount of work. Only a small builder but I get what he does (last was 2 x 6 bed town houses, herringbone wood on ground floor, carpets and lvt elsewhere).
Might suggest he cuts grooves acoss top of slab in a grid system then uses a sds hammer / kango to break out the squares.

That's probably the way forward mate
Cut a load of lines in a grid pattern witj a still saw approx 30mm deep & chip it up with a breaker ?
