Hi People, We are quoting to fit Karndean in a newly built conservatory that has a chipboard floor. Are we right to assume that as long as the moisture content of the chipboard floor is acceptable, we can carry on and fix 6mm ply (SP101), skim, fit etc? Are these chipboard floors laid on a 'polystyrene' type base? Is there a risk of moisture transfer anywhere? Thanks in advance Mark
Will probably be a floating chipboard floor so ther should be a membrane underneath. As long as the chipboard and ply are with in 2% of each other your good to go !
Thanks for your reply. When you say within 2% of each other, I'm assuming you mean the moisture content?
Yes mate. You need a meter with 2 prongs specifically for wood. If there's skirting boards on top of the chipboard put a marker line around the edge before you start. It could save your backside if the chipboard ever massively shrinks !!
Top tip of the day!! Cheers. We have a protimeter Surveymaster which has the 2 pins for checking wood. http://www.trademeters.co.uk/protimeter/protimeter-surveymaster.html Thanks again
He must have been to FloorSkills ? He missed it the bit where you need a digital air hydrometer to take room temperature & air humidity & a wood equilibrium chart to refferance from :stupid
