    Hi,
Fitting a couple of carpets for a customer next week
The underlay he wants is cloud 9 cumulus (11mm)
Should this be double banked/architectural or just single strip
    like normal,
    Thanks in advance Tom.

Single mate, only double up if the room is massive or its a woven/Axminster carpet. Or a horrible backing

Cheers pal for the quick response!!!

Secondary back one going down, rooms not to big
    I hate thick underlay.
A decent 9mm all the way for me!!!

Pack the gripper up so you don't get a dip round the edges & it can hook on properly !

You should cut strips of 4mm ply and fix that to the floor first, that would see you over the problem. No need for anything more that 8/9mm IMO.

I've never had a problem fitting on something like cumulus with a action backed carpet. Only time I've had problems is with axfelt and Axminster carpets !

Neither have I, but should be the way. That's what happens when high street stores sell flooring and tell the customers that 'the thicker the better'.

as above, you should raise your gripper with plywood. It would defo be handy if we could purchase the right thickness gripper in the first place.

As for double banking gripper. All woven carpets should be double banked on the width. also anything over 5m should be double banked.

Has anyone ever packed out the gripper for 11mm underlay? I hear a lot of people saying you can't use it on stairs.

I double bank the gripper on everything. But I do power stretch almost everything too. I use strips of polyflor to build up for 11 mm.

why do you double bank everything? why do you power stretch everything? surely that just creates a longer job for you doesn't it?

Double bank everything because I power stretch everything. Power stretch everything because my knees are F**ked. not much slower to me honest once you get use to it.

Everyone to the own way of doing things.
Best bit of advice I was told was " As long as the end result looks
the best it doesn't matter how you got there"?.....

Keep off cuts from other jobs. 1 1/2 inch wide , roll them up and keep in stock on a shelf.
    And yes work for myself.
