So, i snapped my 18" marshalltown gold trowel yesterday, not overly happy as it cost me the best part of 70 quid. Anyone recommend a good trowel for a llot less money?

Ox tools. Fantastic quality. The best manufacturer of hand tools there is IMO.

I normally clean trowel after use but not always & I so use a razor scraper !
I have never in my life broken a trowel ever ???

Also if you let screeds dry on your trowel it will start to
bow & bend the blade from the compounds shrinking when it dries !

Was your broken trowel just a normal trowel?? Assume it was the standard square edge trowel as I can't find any rounded edge marshalltown gold. If it was a standard trowel, you'll be better off with something like the Ragini screed trowel anyway for working with. Had mine for ages and it's been fine. Good time for a change...

You snapped your trowel by scrapping it!??! Are you HULK??

I use the Ragini ones too. Got loads free a few years back when NA were doing a promo.

Easiest way to clean a trowel with dried screed left on is to soak it with WD 40 or similar. The screed becomes soft and then scrape off with a razor scraper.

Obviously clean the oil off before using again.

    Easy peasy lemon squeezy !!

Never in my life have i had a problem! Always used razor scraper, always been fine. Marshalltown gold is square edge yeh, but its meant to be one of the best, and all plasterers i know swear by it. Bloody thing

Yep, backwards trowel. To be fair I dont really use a trowel now, just a rake for 3-4mm coat or the pin leveller for 6mm coat. Only use a trowel to scrape the bucket so may aswell have a square one.
