Ok so I have a customer who's having 70m2 Opus to the whole ground floor except the kitchen of his home with a 3 track (10mm/20mm/10mm) border flowing throughout. We've agreed we are going to keep every room separate rather than running the border continuing through door ways etc. He stressed to me that he wants the corners mitred and im happy with that either way but I made a suggestion to just run the border in block rather than mitred every corner as its quite busy with so many ins and outs and imo it will look so much better but he says no, mitred - fair enough, he's paying for it after all. He originally asked me if I can screed 15mm thick so it closes the gaps under his doors due to the thick capret he had down but when I explained yes sure no problem but obviously it'll cost more in prep materials AND your skirting will look like beading by the time the floor is down He didn't go for that. I suggested it would be cheaper to get new doors hung! So who prefers mitre to the block fashion? Ive always liked the latter! Looks like the gilly and beveller is coming out again. Oh and he doesn't want me to undercut the architraves....booooooooo!!!!
Used to prefer the block method did it for years, but did one job mitred and I prefer it mitred now. Don't know why but I think it looks naff if all the grain is stopping and starting if you know what I mean? on the other hand when im doing herringbone ill always block the border.
Are you sure you want to work for this guy. Sounds like he'll be on his hands an knees after you've finished picking on every little thing. Could be wrong though.
Exactly what im gearing up for Dave but im confident in my work and have made a few things clear to him beforehand. His wife was telling him off for how anal he was going on and she told me he's like it with everyone so I told them both that when I start it I want to be left alone rather than have someone standing over me all day
Mitres on woodplank every time except not on parque unless the customer wants different. Blocked borders on wood plank is a complete copout & looks naff IMO
Ive bevelled some mitres before on jobs and think with the right plank it looks perfect but then all the grainy stuff can look and feel crap so I told him ill test both methods and give him the choice. do you guys Bevel?
