    Hi guys.

This maybe a stupid question but I thought the above gripper has a tape on top that was like Velcro which held the carpet in place without pins. I have a box ready to fit the roger Oates and it does have tape on top but its shiny and if you peel it back the tape comes completely off the gripper so there is nothing to hold the carpet in place.

Is this right? What ami doing wrong?

Last time I saw a box of that, you didn't need to peel anything off

Sounds like u've bought a box of Velcro gripper which is for felt back carpets ?

So what holds the carpet as there are no pins? I thought that was the point of the tape and interflor said it should have a tape which peels off, leaving one site of tape on the gripper to hold the material.

have u tried the carpet on it to see if it holds? Ive only used it once but when I did I thought exactly the same as you because the tape on the gripper doesn't feel like it would hold anything, but when tried it with the felt back carpet I was fitting, surprisingly it gripped it very well?

Cheers Jamie, I didn't actually try it. I didn't prepare the stairs are interflor said the tape should peel off.

The tape sits where the pins would sit and is a single sided tape with Velcro on the top.. Are we talking the same product??

lay the carpets upside down and try pulling/dragging the gripper across it

Yes mate the tape is all the way along where the pins would be. It's stuck on the gripper and the top side does not feel like Velcro at all. It's a tiny bit rough but not what I was expecting, I'll just have to try it. Spacey-just nail it. This bit of fabric was about 900. Clearly some good money in the fitting though. The customer went to a shop who sells it and their charge just for the fitting was £235 for 13 straight stairs.

Not an obvious loop, if you have a felt backed sample try it on that, it will hold.
