    Hi,

I have just been quoted for 40m2 (Inc 10%wastage) £2594 this is for fitting and screed.this is for hall , living room and wc .

I work this out to be about £64 per m2.

My parents used the company and there work appears to be good. I live about 16 miles from Aberdeen but getting Elgin company to do the work as I have seen their work and they also appear cheaper than the local area.

I just want to be sure I don't have any more haggle room.

I asked for a quote for a bedroom which would need chip board played and the chipboard was quoted as cheaper than screed , is This usual.

    Thanks for any help.

the type of plywood is very important as there is a LOT of Chinese carp going about these days
    cheap ply = disaster
what kind of screed are they using?
A lot of company's just use any ol generic type of screed, id want to know the brand, is it a water mix or latex?
Is the house new or old?
They obviously must've done a moisture test to decide on which type of screed is appropriate?

As coolevilangel says materials are very important although it's a cheap price I would have to be asking why it's so cheap if it's because there using cheap materials there's a good chance you won't get the best job

Thought I had replied yes it spacia, put it in the title but not body of text.

Good point on screed what is best?
I have 3year old so water spillage is not uncommon and since it going in wc should they be using latex?

Never knew there was so much to it lol. Just got few estamates went with them as seen their previous work, which has had no problems but it was plyboard instead of screed.

It a 2/3 year old new build with concrete floors. Wasn't here when they measured so not sure about moisture test.

We are not doing up stairs as the one room 25m2 was like another 1200 pounds.

Out of interest what would you say is average of materials and laying.

I am pulling up old floor etc myself. I am presuming they are cheaper than Aberdeen as they are 60 miles or so from the oil money.

    Amtico Spacia £ 2,202.00
To prepare sub-floor to receive new flooring using smoothing
compound and primer to above areas £ 392.00

    That's what there quote says.

Coolevilangel, pretty sure I asked your company for a quote, but you said you were in holiday and would get back to me after 20th June. I tried to get in touch but heard nothing.

We were looking at karndean and amtico white ash. We decided on amtico as we prefered the finish and could never find a big sample of karndean stuff we liked, can't mind the name of it....was opal and a silvery/grey wood colour.

    is that inc vat?
    £392 for 40m2 is £9.80m2 inc vat
That's a bit 'too' cheap for screed

I am an approved karndean supplier (as well as amtico lol) so could've easily sorted you out with full plank samples direct etc think your on about the opus range?

Right away to sleep now, thanks for the help.

Probably got more questions than ever now, never knew new flooring could be so difficult to choose from.
