Priced up a couple of jobs in a school (I was recommended to them by a local school who I do work for) classroom and corridor. I priced the jobs as normal and got the impression when talking to caretaker that the work was mine no probs.
I got a phone call few days ago saying that a blinds company which were doing work at the school , has undercut me by £250.
So you can guess that I was not very happy the fact that a bloody blinds co. Is pricing flooring. This happened to me before so I'm well annoyed know. I've basically said to the school that in order to do job properly my price need to remain as it is. I know this company will cut corners and I bet not even use same materials. I'm in a bit of a dilemma coz want to get in with this school and do all there work as I have done with other schools. What would you lads do ? Chip a bit off the price ?

I can't SEE how a blind company can do it cheaper?

They're using cheaper materials Daz, a friend of the family who does blinds has just started doing this and the supposedly 'safety floor' he is trying to push on customers is a joke, its like plastacine < awful. Same with his carpet tiles he's got, you may aswell lay some padded tissue

Like mjfl says put thoughts in their head, mention that you do to see how a blinds company could be doing flooring, mention that the materials are not like for like and that they will be replacing theirs In Half the time compared to yours, mention qualifications and British standards absolutely bamboozle them with little technical points and phrases, make them believe that you will see them right with a prior job and not just a cheap one.

Maybe if they're already 'in' with the school, they have put extra on the blinds to allow for less in the flooring? Was anyone else in for the blinds?

Maybe the school are trying it on?
Is it a good quantity of work where you could chop a little off price?
.... use a 'cheaper' but still doable screed?
Im only saying that as you said you have considered it (price) AND you really want to get in with this school.

Yeah think I'm gunna chip a bit off price . Hopefully that will get me in there . It's not a massive amount but there will be in future . That's why I want a foot in. Probably that's why they want a foot in too. Let the war begin :)
