What is the general procedure for the lifting and disposal of these tiles. They have been tested as being of extremely low risk and of a tiny asbestos content. How do we go about disposing of them and is this expensive?
We uplift as normal with a scraper then they go in the skip at the shop with all the rest of the rubbish
Other work with asbestos For work with lower-risk asbestos products, such as decorative ceiling coatings and corrugated asbestos cement sheets, make sure that workers are properly protected and that you minimise the spread of debris – public fear and bad publicity are all too common, and decontamination costs can be huge. Waste Make sure that asbestos waste is disposed of properly and in accordance with Environment Agency and Scottish Environment Protection Agency requirements. Instruction and training It is a legal requirement that your workers are trained to know about the health risks associated with asbestos, how to spot it, and what to do if they uncover damaged asbestos. Once construction work is finished, you may need to share information about the location and condition of any asbestos that is still within the premises. This is so that the client can comply with their duty to manage asbestos in non-domestic premis
All the above is the correct procedure as you would expect but are you working for a council as they normally have a team to remove them prior - if you are also working for a contractor or council they should have as you a procedure in place ie ppe prior wetting on tiles sealed bags at least if not hazard bags . Low content or not it could still be present dont leave yourself open to be bitten years ahead ,or where you are dumping them to come down on you like a ton of bricks . make sure all your guys are asbestos aware and certified .
