Pricing a job for V4 engineered wood over floorboards which are very flat What underlay should I use? I've only gone over concrete before with timber tech 2 She said the floor was cool she has now an want a good underlay to keep it warm?

the underlay used will give very little heat benefits. The normal human would never be able to tell the difference by touch. Yes underlay manufacturers coat with tin foil and make it "look good" blah blah, but in truth..... well it a load of bull. If a 2-3mm 'wood flooring' underlay was so good at insulating against heat then we would be using it in lofts etc. We would not need 200mm thick fibreglass (or what ever the regs are now) What a wood flooring underlay can be good at is sound deadening, still cant compete against thicker more dence products but going back to heat insulation, it really is very minimal.

As Andy says. Think, future cupping. Only slight cupping can have a bad effect on the floor (rocking). I've used board underlay on floorboards - that run in the same direction - in the past to account for this. I personally wouldn't use a roll underlay in such circumstances.
Isn't it best to sort the floorboards out 1st like when plying over? I sand them down if needed or ever screed over and bad cupping.
You should ply over if going the same way but I've gone over flat boards before in the same direction without ply. Used fibre boards and also timbermate (not excel the one without foil). Think same prep as for LVT, get it flat and no joint on joint. That's the danger of going the same way as well as using an underlay with a membrane on which will cause the wood below to absorb moisture and then cup resulting in the floor above rocking and joints splitting
Yea, definitely ply over if the customer is willing to pay for it.. As trimmer mentions..It's future cupping that can lead to problems..
