Have had the same problem and been told to use tackifier at edges ( wtf, jokers! ) basically takes the point out of loose lay ill be staying away...
I know it's not Victoria/Cormar but the kings mead artwork has a nice plum if I remember rightly
I usually use the black wire nails if can't fit maestri in, although it is rare it doesn't fit!
