Whats the name of the sub floor that was put in council houses in the 60,s which you cant nail because they dont hold and cracks easily, also used to dent with heavy furniture, normally a darkish brownish colour. And can it be latexed over , dont think i have ever been over one ?
cheers matey , just looked it up thats the stuff, we always just called it "composition floors" looks like im gonna have to phone around tomorrow because some suppliers recommend digging it up ! I know the chances are it wont have a dpm under, got to screed and lay a sheet vinyl . Laybond say to contact them on their website
Seems that vinyl is a defo no no on this floor, very sensitive to moisture, mmm kitchen in a rented house something that breaths but ideally not carpet, digging the floor up is not an option ??
What about those loose lay vinyl tiles, some of those can go over damp floors can't they? Or put down a isolator sheet first??
Actually that was in the hall where i fitted carpet, the kitchen has this dark brwny , which cool said was magnasite, and I looked it up and it sounds spot on. Now whats that stuff called ? because I laid screed and vinyl over that stuff a couple of years ago and had issues, although they did have a major drainage issue outside the house. but I was trying to find out what it was and even had a sample in my van but no one seemed to know ??
As far as im aware, it Can go over pretty much anything, so long as existing sub floor is flat/smooth etc
He was prepared to pay for me to screed and fit vinyl in an area of around 6 x 4 , so he may go for this, certaintly be better than carpet
goes together a dream, im on the end of a 500m2 click job at the mo. The gear im doing is moduleos click. They are the only click ones im aware of that say you dont have to leave an expansion gap, wont matter to you if the skirts are going to be off etc? I wont post prices up seeing as its a public thread
