gotta 25m2 install of 21mm engineered oak to fit shortly... it's a suspended floor, ground floor, in a Victorian Terrace house. Exisitng joists are shot & are being replaced, client has requested the new flooring to go straight to joist so as to maintain existing floor level into hallway... They've asked if i'd bond the flooring to the new joists rather than nail..! any thoughts, comments, reccomendations on this would be appreciated...

whats the point of that? Why not glue it and nail it, might make them happy? I dont fit wood on to joists that much, when I have Ive always nailed it.

I rarely fit direct to joists hence the query when they asked to stick to joist, will nail me thinks, just putting it out there as was unsure of the suitability of sticking to joists & can it be done, should it be done, pro's & con's etc, etc...

what's the width of plank? if too wide or too narrow they'll need to overboard and glue.

boards are 189mm wide & as the joists haven't been replaced yet i',m unsure of the spacing but 'assume' they will be spaced to current regs.

As tarkett has stated, a bit to wide for nail only.

    glue and nail to joists.

Im not a fan of going direct to joists tho. If money will allow i would plywood over joists and then fully bond to the plywood.

plus if the boards are random length :? that will be one hell of a nightmare.

Miles easier to fit that way, plus you'll know it's going to last ;)
