So I am having my house re-carpeted by a client of mine and I have absolutely no idea what I am talking about - After a bad experience with a tradey I always feel a little apprehensive that my naivity could be taken advantage of even though this guy seems like a perfectly good guy!

    He has quoted the following

    3 days labour - £450
    75m2 of Everyroom Salcombe Charcoal - £997.50
    75m2 of Duralay Sigma 9mm Underlay - £239.95
    13m2 of Georgiatex Hazlehurst Vinyl - £167.55

Total for the job is £1855

If i'm honest I don't think the prices are crazy - But in all honest I have no clue whether the stuff he is suggesting is decent or whatever he can make the most mark up on. Everything I read online is so obtuse (I suspect purposefully) and makes zero sense to me.

I'm probably more concerned whether the stuff he is using is decent enough for my budget (This is the extent of my budget) and will last a reflective amount of time.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated - TIA

    Around £13.30m2 for the carpet.
I've used Salcombe once on a rental, its in my 'rental' carpet section of my samples. I wouldn't be something I'd be putting throughout in my own place though.

Phoenix (condor) is pretty cheap but surprisingly nice enough for the price.

It all seems very cheap to me. Even the Labour is on the shallow end. If that is the limits of your budget then you already look like your punching above your weight for 90m2 of material and fitting.

I've used Salcombe once for a rental property, and it's currently in the 'rental' carpet section of my samples. However, it's not a choice I would consider for carpeting my own home.
