    Hello there.

We just moved into a new house, and we got a new carpet. The carpet is thick and comfy to walk on. However, I didn’t know that it would look so patchy.

The carpet is grey. When I try to hoover it, this leaves lines and streaks that are really noticeable. When the carpet one way, it goes dark grey. When I rub it the opposite way, it goes light grey. My wife doesn’t mind this, but I think it looks messy and patchy. In fact, I think it looks awful.

I have been told that the carpet will “settle”, but I’m not so sure. Is there anything I can do? A special brush? A carpet treatment? Is there any way to minimise the patchyness or colour difference? Is there any way to make it appear more of a consistent colour?

    Any help would be appreciated.

It’s the nature of the carpet. As it starts to wear and crush it may become less noticeable
