Hi I’m after some advice as we are currently having problems with the fitting of our Amtico spacia flooring. Our builder sub contracted a ‘specialist’ Amtico fitter and we supplied the flooring from an Amtico authorised dealer. After approx two months we have noticed it coming up at the edges (example attached, there are many more). To cut a long story short we have questioned the floor fitter regarding what adhesive he used and he has advised he used glue spray and admitted he did not follow Amtico instructions at all. We know this has now invalidated our warranty and we were not told of this beforehand otherwise we would not have used him (is it our responsibility to question this?) We are extremely worried that the whole thing will lift further as the retailer advised us this is highly likely - especially as we have under floor heating. The fitter knows I am extremely angry about this - it’s fitted in the whole entire down stairs of the house - he had said he will put it all right by glueing the edges properly (you can clearly see there is hardly any glue used!) and he has guaranteed it will not all lift up again. I challenged him over not following the Amtico fitting instructions and told him he should not be advertising himself as an Amtico floor specialist if he does not follow the correct process. He feels glue spray is much better - well clearly not on our floor and if that is the case he should give customers the option over what is used. What should I do regarding this? Give him the benefit of the doubt to correct it or demand he rips the whole thing up and start again with the correct adhesive? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as it is really stressing me out now! Thanks for your help Gail Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The latter. No decent installer would use spray on lvts. What prep did he do? Looks like chipboard under the planks. Did he ply it? Im getting fed up of muppets attempting this trade!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your response, that was my thought too but I just can’t face the prospect of ripping the whole thing up The part in the picture is on plywood - this is the hallway - not sure what he put down first but he threw something down and came to fit the next day. The other half of the house is a new concrete floor and he put screed down first. I was dumbfounded when he told me what had been used...and not a roller in sight...apparently it’s not needed and his glue is much better, he’s been using it for years and never had any problems I appreciate your advice, thank you
nooooo waaayyyyyy Spray Glue? Wtf!!! The whole lot will peel up and the UFH will certainly assist with that. I wouldnt be at rest till the whole lot was up and started again. I'll put money on it he didn't do the correct spec prep either, needs sorting ASAP else this is going to be one he'll of a stressful ride I'm afraid.
That looks like chipboard down in the picture. Massive problems of he’s gone over that. Did you see or do you have a quote with the sun floor prep? He should of put 6mm or 9mm plywood down over chipboard.
Ok now I feel sick...how the hell do I get out of this sorry mess with my bank balance and house in tact? Is the floor fitter responsible for putting this right at his expense? Someone suggested getting an independent Amtico specialist in to assess it, is this worthwhile or is it bloody obvious that it’s a write off so no point? Fitter sent people round to ‘fix it’ today and it’s still lifting - but apparently the glue is excellent and he’s never had a problem before, must just be my floor then I had a showdown with him today and he basically admitted he didn’t follow ANY of Amtico’s specifications Send help! The builders put the wood down as that part of the floor was lower than the extension...told us it was plywood...not even sure I believe that anymore Honestly no idea how he has never had problems before - why the hell you would go against manufacturers fitting is beyond me...must be very confident in his spray glue! I told him he needs to give the customer the choice over what is used if that is the case as it is just dishonest calling yourself a specialist fitter if you don’t fit to their standards...I would have happily paid a few more quid for a quality job if I had known (although he tells me the spray glue he uses is more expensive ) So sounds like I’m up shit creek without a paddle and about to enter the rapids Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The fitter is 100% responsible but sounds like its going to be like trying to squeeze water out of a dry flannel! You can't let him fob you off with his 'I've done this all the time' crap, sounds like he's mistaken your amtico for Karndean loose lay You will most likely end up going down the legal route and having the Amtico tech out to write you report can back you up that in no circumstances can you be expected to live with that floor. It will eventually all move/lift and it hasn't been fitted to spec. You need to put it to the fitter and tell him straight, you need this floor doing properly and until then, you are not going to be happy. If he doesn't want to entertain that then give him the option to pay for it to be done properly or pay you for new amtico and give you your money back you gave him. You might be a £200 out of pocket as you'll pay someone to lift it (or get him to take it up and away) BUT unless you want this to be an ongoing problem then £200 maybe what you'll have to be down on
Would you use it in 85 sqm of Amtico spacia flooring?! If the answer is yes I recommend stopping based on the advice received Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Fab advice, thank you he got it full barrels from me today so it will not come as a surprise to him when I tell him tomorrow that I want it sorting properly or I’ll see him in court. Bring. It. On Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He's coming back tomorrow?? To add some blu-tac Did you see him using this spray? Was it cannister or like Gun and tank? When you are walking over this amtico, can you hear any noises like crunching etc?
No idea unfortunately as we were both at work when it was laid...builders were in the house at the time I will quiz them about it. He might as well try Blu-tac next - it can’t be any worse He has admitted it’s a crap quality job but still stands by his marvellous glue Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Forgot to say...no crunching...yet...should we whack the underfloor heating on full pelt to see what happens? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I demanded that he emailed me with exactly what products he had used and the process he followed...he went a little white at that point Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Jeees! This sounds like an episode of Eastenders ! I hope you get it sorted Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cheers I’d say more like Breaking Bad...you didn’t see me ranting, even I felt sorry for the bloke Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No because It would be very expensive, take a very long time And I would probably faint from the fumes and your pets would probably die
I wondered why my dog had dropped down dead all of a sudden, all makes sense now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
