Yes mate, it needs to be removed and concrete floor put down. Woodflooring will pull it up.

don't Mapei and Uzin recommend a slurry coat prior to screeding?

Hi all. New to this forum. I have what I'm pretty sure is an asphalt floor. It's brownish black cOlour and about 1" thick I'd say. Can this be replaced with anything other than asphalt? Perhaps sharp sand and cement mix? Would I need to put a dpm down before I lay concrete? Could I just screed over the asphalt?

    Your help is appreciated.

not really. However i was speaking with a company called Mapei and they have a product i think can be laid at only 40mm thick over a DPM sheet. I would ring Mapei direct and ask them .

Ok another question. My asphalt floor has tiles bonded directly to it. I assume vinyl. Could I use a levelling compound over these? They are so well stuck down prob the only way to get them up would be pulling the asphalt up to!! I need to put an engineered wood floor down over it all.

    Thanks again

sounds like marley tiles mate need to get tested for asbestos before we can advise, although if you're bonding floor down then asphalt needs removing and new crete base creating.

No I guess not. If I float does anyone have any recommendations of underlay? Fibre board maybe? If I had to remove the tiles and asphalt what would I put in place? I'm guessing I'd have to pull up all the concrete as well and the put dpm down and new conc screed? Rather just float it if all that is involved.

don't use fibreboard not suitable, use timbermate excel or similar product to float, just don't float a T&G engineered only float one with a locking system I.E. kahrs, haro etc.. do decent engineered boards for floating.

Why not float a t&g system? I much prefer them, can't stand locking systems unless it's quickstep.
