Had a few of these on a estate where I use to work, all the subfloors were a black, mega hard concrete. Any1 know what it is and if you can screed over them? I've always fitted carpet over them in the past.
No, it's black all the way through! Really weird. I remember them from this certain estate but got to screed over one next week and fit lvt over it
Funny you say that actually; I was on a job the other week and it had exactly the same to what you are discribing. Couldn't get any pins in it, had to glue all the gripper down.
That was the first time I came across it. The fella what I was with that day, he said he had never came across it in the 40 years what he had been doing it also.
Nope, hah. I was in Hayes in Middlesex. We've done work in the estate before aswell and not one of the houses what we worked in before had this type of black concrete sub-floor. Wierd, very wierd.
Ha, they must of had a bit left over when they built Bagshot green, and it's ended up in a house in Hayes!
if you need to drill it, you'll need one of these http://www.makita.com.au/products/accessories/sds-max it will be like butter, they're great for those communal areas also, the ones with all those big chippings in... Don't forget to reverse your drill though.
sounds like power floated. Power floated concrete can look very dark in color. Almost like its wet. Nomally very smooth like Glass. Careful, it can take up to 20+ years to get below 75% RH . Almost always needs a suface DPM. Has to be abraded first.
No it's jet black and more of a mat finish, Ive seen power floated concrete when I fitted vinyl in securitas vault. Like you say it was shiny and very very hard
cure speed as in how long until it can take traffic / loads. Normally it ends up trapping moister so takes even longer to dry (moister content) . Reason why it looks even darker in colour.
