I am doing a customers loft which is brand nee in chipboard and very flat, i have overlayed with 4mm ply from local timber merchant, feathered it and started laying amtico spacia with sf adhesive, as we are going round we are finding air bubbles appearing under the ply, any suggestions?
Technically not the correct ply. Was it acclimatised? How is it fixed down and what’s the spacing between fixings
Customer didn’t want to fork out for ply in the first place, i convinced him tonuse some 4mm as i had it left over from something else, started using nail gun but airline broke so started screwing down with 20mm screws but bubbling has appeared on both sections
Probably shot straight through it and the ply has came away. Soon as a potential customer say they don't want extra expense I tell them I'll quote for how I recommend it being done and leave it with them whether I lose the job or not because you only end up going round chasing bubbles in your floor that you fitted
Well if it’s like the ply I got from Fulham timber merchants last week I’m not surprised it bubbled. Maybe it was the hot weather but as soon as I put it on the floor it appeared to try and turn into a canoe? 4mm is not great for fixing but screws should of held it? Any pipes under the floor?
The chipboard sub floor may also had some moisture in it although in this heat prob not . I would say incorrect ply
