i use a roberts golden touch 10 616 carpet trimmer, which has a guide that runs along the gap in the gripper, once the carpet is stretched on the spikes
yes i have had mine for years, i used to have a roberts with a wooden handle and one central blade, its probably in the shed somewhere
Is this the latest one all singing and dancing?.I am a firm believer that the less tools the better but i have seen the video and i am impressed. The demo uses softbac carpet but how does it fare oh harder stuff?.My main quest is gonna be is it an all rounder and if so is it worth the tag of about 80 dabs.I fit free hand but it could be a good learning tool for my apprentice or so i think??.
This one mate? If so you can buy it from here- http://www.carpetfittersshoponline.co.u ... -269-p.asp Dont forget that "trade members" on here get a discount on all tools. Find your discount code here- viewtopic.php?f=61&t=86 and instructions also. Its a really good tool.
Thanks for your help.It doesnt answer my question im afraid.Should i try one of these? even though i have never done so.The pic isnt the modern one that tucks and trims etc!.Help needed i think cheers martin.
got ya, the modern one that tucks aswell i belive is crap? Maybe someone else can comment there. As for the one in the picture- its one of my favourite tools. I would defo recommend. They take 20 mins to set up and get used to them but after its set it will work on 90% of carpets without adjustment. It will cut all types of carpet no problems. I would defo recommened for a apprentice
Cheers chaps. You have answered my question on both counts.Been told about the new all sing/jive not being very gooD.Will try the one as you have recommended. It might make me a good fitter as well.
Ok, i have just ordered one of the above cutters, Are they easy to set up ? I would imagine its a case of playing around with it for a while till you get it right. I had never seriously considered getting one until one of you mentioned that it would be good for his apprentice - got me thinking it would be good for my trainee ! all the best Ray
there easy to set up. they have height plates you remove if you want the cut lower. Start off high and work your way down. Also play with holding the cutter at different angles as this can change the cut (more weight at the back and front) Once you work this out you can set it once and then put your weight on either side for different carpet pile lengh Who did you order yours off mate?
I will wait for Ray to answer that because he is tight then i can get one for the same price only kidding Ray!.
if your happy with RWS Supplies service then can you leave some feedback in here viewtopic.php?f=42&t=221 so others in the future can see. (bit like ebay feedback) :thumbs
Hi Ray,if you have a strip of white plastic in the package, i recommend you stick it on, it saves skirtings getting marked, regards Alan
cheers Alan, I did wonder about that. i've found out you need to be careful with the EZ tuck and the speedcat also !
with the setting up the blade holder s obviously go together, and i put 2 spacers above that, positioned about 1/2inc from front so you cant get all of your finger in, hope that helps, stick the strip on with gripfil and leave in a vice over night
thanks Alan, you are a very helpful chap ! I have orderd an invisiseamer aswell, the job I spoke about with the long joins elsewhere was confirmed today so it seems like a good time to get one !
