So I registered yesterday but haven't received a confirmation email yet and I'm only able to post in this forum. Looks like I'm not the only one to have this problem - I'll post my question here for now, hopefully this isn't against the rules.

I'm redoing the floor in my living room and I'm not sure how to deal with the transition into the hallway. I've put down thick acoustic mats (for soundproofing purposes) which means that the living room floor is now going to be significantly higher than the laminate in the adjoining hallway.

I managed to pick up a door bar which is more or less the right height (i was going to post pics but I'm apparently not allowed). The gripper rod will be 6mm above the laminate, the carpet is 7mm pile height or 9mm total height and the gap in the door bar is 14mm.

The problem is I'm not sure if it's okay to get the carpet fitter to install the carpet so that it's just hanging off the end of the gripper so that I can then install the door bar. Is that okay or do I need to make a gap for the end of the carpet to tuck into? I could do this, I could take a bit off the strip of laminate that the gripper is going to go on top of but I'm not sure if this would make sense.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You can trim the front of the ramp back, so it tapers down to about a 10mm drop, the carpet can be fitted as if up to skirting, that way, the carpet can be fitted properly and the top of it will be flush with the start of the ramp,

How ever you do it the carpet needs to be fitted up to the threshold. So you may as well cut off the thin part of the threshold. If you tuck it under the thin edge it will eventually snap when stepped on

Do you mean trim the thin lip that extends out? That extends straight out so I don't see how that would affect the drop?

In any case the drop underneath that is about 14mm, so if I trimmed that down to 10mm wouldn't that be too small, if my gripper is going to be 6mm tall and the carpet 9mm? I might be misunderstanding what you're saying.

Even if the carpet is tight up to the underside of the lip?

Anyway I guess the bigger problem would be how to fit the carpet underneath the door bar?

The main thing I was unsure about was really whether it's necessary to have a vertical edge to fit a carpet up to (like a skirting board). It would make things easier if it wasn't since I could get the carpet fitted and then install the door bar after but it seems like this isn't possible, if I'm understanding correctly.

In that case, maybe cutting off the whole lip would be the best solution. If my gripper is 6mm above the laminate and the carpet is 7mm 'pile height' and 9mm 'total height' (not sure which of these are more relevant) what height should the door bar ideally come up to?

If it was me then id forget the T - Bar, use the strip you have and take that lip off, fit the carpet up to it nice and tight like its up to a skirt. You'll get away with that.

    What carpet you having?

I guess it must be total height ... if I’m understanding correctly what those terms mean.
