I'm currently opening a flooring showroom and am after some advice . I was just wandering which carpet manufaturers and ranges are the best sellers ??? I've been fitting flooring for 25 yrs but carpet is by far my weakest side ( only ever really fitted it if I have too ) and never as a day job , so looking for tghe advice of others rather than listen to the reps pushing their choices , cheers , Darren.:thumbs
I tend to sell a fair bit of cormar carpets. Their primo ranges are good for the money. For cheap real cheap I sell a lot of condor carpets.
I think you need cormar cos its every where. I do fit a lot of it as they really do cover every area in carpets from cheap polyprops to 60 oz twists, 100%wool, but honestly their back fall apart very often and I think most fitters would have experienced this. If you are after 80/20 with 20 being nylon or 2ply yarn then cormar don't cover that. I also sell a lot of Brockway. Nice carpets, nice backing which is fitter friendly, some different ranges as well which is good. I do some Victoria as well but use them mainly for the natural looks as their twists are not as competitive as others for an equal carpet. I don't think they have any twists with nylon either so if you need to offer something of better quality you need your Brockway, westex, aminster. Lower end, get some lifestyle floors or furlongs.Last week I looked at a job which was fitted with furlongs spectrum which is vey cheap and another job fitted around the same time, 3 years ago with something double the cost, The cheap carpet was looking as good. Like oddbod says, and what I really believe, know your area before fitting the shop out. A shop near me competes with passing trade who go to john lewis so his shop has mainly all the better end like westex, brintons, Brockway etc and a rep said he doesn't bother with anything cheap. Check out your competition, have some things they have to compete but do something different. Good luck.
Like the others have said know your market, no point having brintons or westex if the bulk of your potential customers are in council houses and unemployed just as there is no point having dublin twist on the rack if you live in kensington or knightsbridge. The warehouse I work out of has a trade counter as well as a showroom, he has decked it out in cormar and lifestyle and seems to do alright out of it, he does have a few other books but those are predominantly what he sells, I live in a midmarket region id of said.
Thanks for the advice , I'm really grateful for it . I live in a mid-market area , and not wanting to stock really cheap stuff, Does anyone have the number for my local Cormar rep , I've already spoken to him(but cant find his number ) Mark something I think , the only problem I may have is he's already said that he will have to see if it's in any stores nearby , and I know for a fact that there's a shop within about 1/2 a mile that already stocks it.. He had a bit of a bad attitude I thought to be honest , and was supposed to call me before christmas to arrange a meeting - but never did.
Just had a look , Look nice , what have you got ? How much do you want ? and where are you ?? cheers, Darren.
£25 per stand. I've got 8 Stands. I'm based in Otley, Leeds. Cramlington is approx. 100 miles from me , but could deliver.!!
Right then , Cormar rep wont entertain me because I'm to close to another wharehouse that he stocks , So Iam going to contact Furlongs ! is there another manufacturer that I should consider ??
Kingsmead are good mate, I'm getting some cracking deals on half rolls for stock and they are gone every few weeks! Also they have taken over Georgian and stoddard who before wouldn't give me accounts!??
