We had new carpet laid over our old underlay which was in good shape still. I bought a lab test for VOCs and formaldehyde a year later because the chemical smell was still present when windows were shut and the smell worsened with sunny days. Results were raised formaldehyde levels. We have since taken down the new curtains, dismantled and removed all other furniture except a large 3 door wardrobe and cleaned the carpet 3 times. The smell is just as strong as before. The company, a very reliable old family one, which laid the carpet have since closed. The carpet is Smart Buttermere Ashness. I don’t know what the underlay is but could photograph it. We have everything scattered round the house for storage and haven’t been able to use the room which is very much needed. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you.

The issues should be covered by the carpet manufacturer's warranty, hopefully someone of here maybe familiar with that product and the manufacturer and be able to put you in the right direction.
