Just had a quote to carpet the whole of my 3 bed semi for £1900, carpets and underlay. The carpet is Condor Folkestone range. Price seems good but is the carpet any good?

Folkestone is not a bad carpet for the price, done a fair bit of it for my customers, a nice thick saxony.

What underlay have you been quoted for?

There was no name on the underlay. It just says 8mm underlay on the invoice, it was red on one side if that helps.

As we are having the same carpet for the whole house we don’t want one that is hard wearing.

Personally I try to avoid thicker piles on heavier wear areas like lounges and stairs, they wear fine but don’t keep their shape as long or easily as a decent short pile twist.
