Hi everyone, I’m new here after spending some time reading through older posts on the forum. It’s been super helpful so far, and I think I’ve answered most of my questions—but I wanted to run things by you all to make sure I’m on the right track and see if there’s any advice I may have missed. The Situation: My property was built pre-70s. Next week, I’m having asbestos tiles removed from multiple rooms, including the toilet. Underneath the tiles is bitumen, which has also tested positive for asbestos. The abatement company suggested not removing the bitumen but instead latex screeding over it. Where I’m At: I’ve reached out to several companies to get this work done, but unfortunately, no one has replied, and I’m running out of time. After doing some research (thanks to this forum and other resources), I feel like this might be a project I can tackle myself. Here’s the plan I’ve pieced together so far: Arditex NA over the bitumen (no primer needed). Ardex DPM 1 C layer. Arditex NA over the DPM (again, no primer needed). Once the second layer of Arditex NA is down, it should be ready for carpet in most areas. For the toilet, I’m thinking of using either vinyl sheet flooring or tiles. My Questions: Does the above approach sound like the best course of action? Are there any additional steps or tips that I should be aware of to make sure the job is done right? For the toilet area specifically, would vinyl sheet or tiles be a better option over the encapsulated floor? Any advice would be much appreciated—thanks in advance! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Great thank you both for your quick responses, a lot more confident now. Will report back how it's gone in a couple of weeks!
Completed the job(s) yesturday, and happy to report everything has gone well and had no issues. The NA was easier to work with than I was expecting, the Ardex caught me off guard going a little slow the first batch was tricky to work with towards the end of the batch as was setting, so was quicker with the second batch! Very happy with the result and ready for my new carpets / flooring. Thank you both for your confirmations on the original post!
I have a very similar situation and am planning on taking a similar approach. Ardex's marketing info say that Arditex CL Plus should also be effective as NA in this situation, which would be more cost-effective. Any experiences or thoughts on this?
