Hi all, Mal from Bexhill here, DIY enthusiast. Not sure if I'm doing this right as it's the 3rd time I've posted this
In brief. About 4 weeks ago I layed approx 1.4□mtrs of sand and cement screed at 65mm depth ready mixed delivered at 8am and finished the job by 12 midday. I have now noticed I have a few cracks in the screed and t sounds hollow in places. The thing is, I have just ordered my floor tiles which are due in 3 weeks and the chap is due to lay them not long after. Because of these cracks, should the screed be redone?

Concrete almost always cracks in places when it dries especially this time of year with the warmer temperatures and humidity

Can you post any pics of the cracks and what type of flooring is being laid ?

Cracks can be repaired There’s a few systems that can sort this

cracks in a 1.4m2 screed! either you have mis inputted the number or something is probably wrong, thats the size of a toilet/porch, no way should there be cracks at that size, either it wasnt compacted enough or it was too dry as you were laying it which can cause cracks/hollow points, get your floorlayer round to asess it and see what he thinks, might need a coat or 2 of 1kturbo to strengthen it and or epoxy fibres to join the cracks depending on severity, 65mm takes 80 days minimum to dry anyway so you will have time to sort it regardless.

Didn’t read that properly Agree a slab that small shouldn’t be cracked

    "diy enthusiast"

id say taken to long (4 hours?) to do a small area, in between fags/hot moments and its not bonded properly, cracks usually occur either from stress or weak points where it has dried out when a break is taken with no slurry to bond between, id rule out stress on that size even if 1.4m3 its still too small for stress.

    Sorry for the misunderstanding.
It is 1.4 cubic mtrs of sand and cement for an area of 3.2 x 6.5 mtrs at 65mm depth. I layed the screed myself with my son in aw. I must admit that we thought the mix may have been on the dry side because it didn't rub up as well as it should have. I am having Spanish floor tiles layed on it diagonally, the tiles are 80 x 80cm and enough tiles to vover approx 46□ mtrs. Still not sure what I should do. Hopefully pics uploaded.

Try posting one pic at a time or taking screen shot your own pics works :)

My suspicion is, the mix wasn't wet enough! The reason I say this is because as we're walking on the floor it is becoming increasingly more sandy and Pitts and hollows are appearing, and with a mix of 4 to 1 this shouldn't happen! The only primer my floor had was dampened down concrete before and during laying the screeding but in places it has still not adhered to the concrete base. I'v never had a problem in the past, even when I did my garage. I think this is a combination of, mix not wet enough, the hot weather and drying too quickly and maybe also not using a proper primer?
So now the question is, should I try to repair it with some good advice from you good tradesmen out there or rip it up and start again?
The thing is, 46□mtrs of 80 x 80 Spanish good quality floor tiles and a good Floor Tiler all at 4K....What to do??

Ardex, fball, Mapei, Uzin and Schönox all do surface hardeners.

    Plenty of choice
