We are doing up a house in order to sell it. To keep costs down we want to recarpet the place ourselves. We've spotted a nice carpet but it is 'felt backed'.

Is it wise to use doublesided tape for sticking down felt backed carpets?

Should the carpet be stretched with a knee kicker?

Is an extra underlay essential or is the felt back adequate?

It is advised not to use standard grippers because the felt doesn't grip the pins well. There is a product called feltworks gripper which has 'mushroom head pins' and glue.

Is this the feltworks gripper the best option? Should the knee kicker be used with this?

to keep costs down you would be best fitting direct to the subfloor. You will need to stick it around the boarder with mushroom/velcro tape. And yes you need to stretch fit the carpet.
