"Vacancy Description" Michael Peters, based in Bentley Heath, Solihull, are looking to take on a keen and reliable Apprentice/Junior Floor Layer to join the team. The successful candidate will be learning directly from our fitters to gain experience and knowledge in the trade. You will receive one-to-one support to ensure you progress in the early stages of your flooring career. You will be expected to arrive on time, work every day with a willingness to learn and be eager to try new things, part of what you do will involve work in people's houses so honesty and good communication skills are a must as you represent the company at all times. The working week is Monday - Friday in different locations. You will learn to work with materials such as carpet and vinyl and will be using specialist tools. You will be supervised at all times by a member of our team. Adhere to Health & Safety in the work place is required at all times as well as ensuring all work is cleared each day and tools in their rightful place. Duties could include eventually: • Measuring up floor space and estimating the amount of material needed • Working out how to make the best use of materials • Clearing the work area so that the work area is free, this frequently includes the removal and re-hanging of doors • Removing old flooring • Cleaning, levelling and sealing the bare floor with compound if required • Gluing or nailing floor coverings into place • Stretching carpet over spiked gripper rods and taping / heat-sealing "Key Details" Vacancy Title: Apprentice/Junior Floor Layer Employer: Michael Peters Vacancy Location: 206 Widney Road Bentley Heath Solihull West Midlands B93 9BH Working Week: Monday - Friday 40 hours p/week Weekly Wage: National Minimum Wage (Paid Monthly) Number of Vacancies: 1 "Key Dates" Possible Start Date: Immediate Start "Training" Training to be Provided by the company, Michael Peters and the employed Fitters, both who have over 50 years of experience between them. You will work closely with them and they'll ensure you are learning the ropes and are progressing well throughout your flooring career. You will be shown how to use all the specialised cutting tools and hand tools correctly and safely for this role. Skills Required • Excellent practical skills • Good maths skills to measure floor areas and work out costs • Good fitness levels • A polite and pleasant manner for dealing with customers • The ability to work quickly and accurately • An awareness of health and safety • Good hand skills and eye for detail are essential Qualifications Required • No formal qualifications required, but GCSE or equivalent in Maths would be an advantage. • Driving license not vital but would be beneficial in the long run.
