I have just brought my first house and have had some new carpet on the staircase. They’ve been today and have installed it. I’m really unhappy with how it’s be lay and I think it looks naff. I can appreciate that it’s an awkward stair/cut but surely there’s a better it looks like a rugs be put

    would appreciate any advice IMG_5543.jpeg IMG_5535.jpeg IMG_5534.jpeg

The left step is better than the right one, I would have fitted them first then the landing personally, looks like they’ve been done last after the landing I think. I would have kept them both the same at both sides where they’ve finished it on the left hand side. Should be an easy sort of you have any waste left over. Just give the fitter/shop a call and ask to have it rectified.

Not great that. Can never get why they doorbar when it’s got a step next to the bedroom, we take the door off and run it through.

Agree with you, never noticed it was the same carpet throughout there

agree that’s good practise but not always possible due to pile direction in bedroom and sometimes width constraints

Looking at it ideally both sides should match one has been pinned the other hasn’t……
Did they speak to you in regards to how it would finish.
I would explain this is how it would look and at that point you could raise a concern.
What were you expecting if it’s just the fact one is pinned one is not it’s a simple fix.
Personally the curve at the edge of both steps is too small too try hide as the carpet would bubble back even more.
It all depends what you are unhappy about can you be more precise with your description

Thanks for your reply. So the carpet that was fitted there previously was pinned around the top step. Both ends of the step are showing and one side is longer than the other. I expect that’s why they’ve pinned it as I assume there was a gaping hole on the right side.

I was expecting them to sculpt it around the step as you would on the bottom step. In my opinion it looks like I’ve done it myself and not a carpet fitter

I have attached a photo of the step with previous carpet but unfortunately it’s not very clear

Hard to tell but I don’t think you’d get a great finish covering the full step, how they have done it is fine if it was finished neater.

With some patience it could have been done but you usually see them done how yours has been done but a lot neater
