Hello. I am new to the forum but have recently had new carpet fitted and am very unhappy with the results. Not being a carpet expert I have been in search of a forum where I could get some advice. I came across this forum and hopefully could be the best place to get some help. We have recently had some renovation done to our house with a building company that provides all services from building, plumbing, electrician etc. which also included carpet fitting. We purchased the carpet through the building company and was one of the options they provided. It is Cormar Calico Pimlico carpet. We didn't go for an expensive option so I appreciate the quality may not be the highest. The building company have said they will come back to look at the areas we are concerned about and to fix them. So with this in mind I wanted to share some images of the carpet and ask a few questions: 1) I am no expert but this looks badly fitted to me. Would you agree? 2) The builder has said that as this is a loop pile carpet it is not possible to cut this in clean lines and so we have some places where the edge is quite jagged (i.e. isn't cut perfectly along the line of loops due to wither the wall not being perfectly straight or where there is a corner stair). Is this true? Or is a good carpet fitter able to get around this and still make it look like clean lines? 3) The builder has also said that the carpet isn't the best quality therefore is part of the reason why it doesn't look so good. I've obviously highlighted to them that they are the ones that sold it to me therefore they shouldn't be selling carpet that can't be fitted properly. But anyway, is the quality going to mean the carpet won't look clean when fitted 4) There are parts where chunks of the loop pile are missing (or have been cut out). Is this even something that can be fixed? 5) Based on the images, would you say this could be rectified using the same carpet but just re-fitting it better. Or does this look like something that needs to be pulled up and started again? (I appreciate you only have a few images to see this) Sorry for so many questions I just want to have some ammunition for when they come back to 'rectify' the issues and can challenge them appropriately. Happy to provide any additional information or images if this helps. Thank you in advance for reading and providing your valuable insights! Many thanks Simon
ohhh my god. Is this a winde up? If your builder seriously thinks this is down to the carpet being poor quality and thinks that the way it's been fitted is acceptable then you need to give his head a rattle and tell him to stop trying on his b*ll**it Who actually fitted the carpet? The plumber
Not a chance should you be settling for that, it needs ripping and starting again but this time fitted by an actual carpet fitter
Please tell me this is a joke. That builder needs locking up. What a animal. That carpet is perfectly good quality. The installation is totally unprofessional.
Thanks for the re-assurances that it isn't just me! My gut feeling was that it needs to be ripped up and started again. Again being maybe a bit naive, what are my legal rights in terms of being able to demand it be re-done ,or that I won't pay for it (I am still holding back the final payment to the builders which would cover the carpet costs we have paid)? Thanks again for the support and quick responses
