Hi all, I've recently (last weekend) had LVT glue down installed throughout the downstairs of my new house that I'm renovating. Previous to this I had all the floors screeded level and they were super flat, so no issues there. However, this flooring (Amtico), is so noisy to walk on. It sounds sticky as you walk on it, like a "tacktacktack" sound, but the surface is clean and the noise appears as you lift pressure off of it/step off - it seems as if coming from the underneath. I've recently had LVT glue down installed in one of the bedrooms on top of plywood, different brand of LVT, but the exact same big tub of adhesive used, and it's silent. No sticky noise at all! I'm not living at the house so it's not getting walked on much, just for the odd job on a night after work but it's driving me crazy when I do, is this something that will disappear in time? Is it air escaping from the underneath or something? Thanks! Danny
What adhesive is it that was used? So the tile itself isn't sticky but when you push down you can hear it tack?
Hey, yeah sort of! So the tile itself definitely isn't sticky, I even tried covering it over with a dust sheet then walking on it to make sure. The noise occurs when you actually 'lift off' the tile as you're walking away, presumably as the tile rises up again as you take your weight off of it when the noise occurs. The adhesive used was Styccobond F48 Plus. For a bit more info, the actual floor is Amtico First Acoustic. In a desperate attempt I even rang Amtico direct today, their technical department wasn't sure and not a lot of help as they couldn't see it in person obviously, but said it sounds like it could be the tile is not adhered to the adhesive properly and it's as its "unsticking from adhesive as it lifts back up". Sound plausible? I can definitely grab a video tomorrow when back at the house. I tried allowing the Amtico rep listen to it on the phone today but the mic wouldn't pick it up annoyingly. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Another Q - I seem to be able to press some of the planks down, especially in the corners, with my thumb when applying a good bit of force and see it visibly sink below the one next to it - should this happen at all? I know the acoustic ones are a bit more "cushioned" than regular tiles, but wasn't sure if normal. It doesn't feel "squishy" to walk on at all though.
Sounds like it could be a mixture of poor prep and late placement on the adhesive (adhesive allowed to dry out before fitting the plank onto it) but without physically inspecting it it's a stab in the dark. Have you tried lifting a plank? If you could then check the back of the tile to see if there is any adhesive on it because I'm sure the F48plus is a wet set method
Thanks for the info, poor prep in terms of what sorry? I made sure the floor was clean and free of dust/debris etc before they started fitting. I can try lifting a plank tomorrow for sure, should I be expecting to see dried adhesive on the back of a lifted plank normally? Not sure what wet set method and the alternatives are. Should the planks be rollered after being put into position/or similar to make sure they firmly stick down? I'm dreading the idea of having to take them up to be re-fit, how hard is it to remove adhesive from planks/floor?
Sounds like he glued it out on Monday and fitted it on Tuesday. Must be late placement. As said above
