I am looking to lay some real wood tongue and Groove flooring from B & Q and it’s a Herringbone style. Short individual planks.

I was assuming I could just slot this together but after reading many ways of fixing I am now doubting this will be the best solution. I am worried it may move/expand and create gaps between the blocks. Is it best to glue this flooring down? How does that affect an expansion gap at the sides as surely if its glued down its not moving anywhere. Also, the span covers an original parquet floor and an extended concrete floor. Is it possible to glue to both? Any advice would be appreciated. Ideally I don't want to glue and just slot the wood together. Skirting Boards will be laid on top adding security. Is this a risky approach?

Please get in a professional to do this work, by your own admission you have no idea how to install or prep the sub-floor correctly but please be aware the prep and install will be more expensive than the materials and for good reason.

Yep, this sounds like a potential disaster. Herringbone is no diy job. Your subfloor does not sound suitable either. You need some prep work and a good fitter

Not wishing to be rude but after reading your question I don't think you are equipped to undertake this job and you are in danger of ruining the materials before then having to do what you should do from the outset - call in a professional.

Herringbone insatallation is not easy to do. Its's a specialist job it will need to be glued to the sub floor not "just slot the wood together" by which I think you mean glued together and floated. The sub floor you describe has all the potential for real problems as laying wood over wood is not ideal. You have given no indication that you understand how to set out the crown or if you are planning on a boarder.

The only other thing I would add is that B&Q are not exactly noted for the quality of their (usually expensive) wood floors and they certainly will not be able to give you any technical advice about any aspect of this job that is worth a carrot. A professional installer will do a proper job and if you do use one then use their purchasing power for your materials and you will probably reduce your overall cost at the same time as getting a better value product and a quality installation that will ensure you will be proud of the new floor in your home.

Risky is not the word i'd use.
I'm sure you'd of paid a premium price for a far below par product. Did you keep the receipt? Take it back, call a pro, they'll supply a better product for potentially a good bit less than what you probably paid and more importantly get the subfloor prepped correctly.
where abouts are you based? There's bound to be someone here who covers your area or atleast knows someone who does.
