I bought some Karndean Art Select LM16 tiles for my mum's kitchen bit did not have the fitted my a Karndean installer. I commissioned a handyman that specialises in flooring. I had not been able to fully supervise the work but saw it for the first time at the weekend. I'm a little disappointed.

I've attached some pictures where I think
    - the tiles are not flush enough against one another,
    - pieces have been cut too small against the plinth,
    - tiles are raised
    - laid tiles have been damaged (cut) - presumably whilst cutting other pieces!

I think it looks like my DIY attempt would look.
The original fitter is coming back to rectify by the fact they were like this in the first place makes me worry that it might be more of the same. I think they were rushing.
Is it too late to pull these tiles up and get them refitted by someone more experienced. Or will I have to spring for a set of new tiles first.

Also is there a specific method for making the marble effect tiles fit as flush as possible?

I can't believe you've bought Karndean and got them fitted by a 'handyman' ???? Ive not even looked at the pictures and by what you describe, Id buy them again, and get it screwed and fitted by a 'Floorlayer' ... and bin whats down at the moment.

Why can't you edit posts ? lol
Meant to write, buy them again and get them fitted by a Floorlayer, looked at the pics and they're absolutely shocking, one of them clearly has a lump of something underneath.

Why are you disappointed when you’ve not even used a professional floor layer? You’ve got exactly what you’ve asked for..a handy mans effort. RIp up and replace.

Loving the curves cut around the door frame :D

Waste of decent tiles and this is what you get for not having a professional FLOORLAYER in!!

Full rip out all new tiles, get in a professional installer to prep and fit the floor it’s a hard lesson everyone to their own trade.

I think I knew what the responses would be here :) I just wanted to be s
My reason for posting was just to be confident that I should draw a line under this job today rather than wasting any more of his time and my money and making things even more difficult. As I think rushing to leave site with some of the tiles in that condition for us to discover is telling. I'll see if I can get a LVT fitter to eyeball it as I suspect there are wider issues with the overall flushness of the tiles in general that are not obvious to my untrained eye.

Find a local company with good reviews. Get them to come out and look at what the hell is going underneath (the photo entitled "skirt" seems to suggest your subfloor prep definitely needs looking at! Seems to be full of hair...) and then have them price up on materials (so at least you have provenance on the tiles and other materials...). Good luck!

RIP it up and start again as the song goes, chalk it up to experience, if you need a floor fitted get a floorer to do it, just as you would get a sparky in for electrics or a plumber for wet stuff

You saying you think the tiles have faulty issues?

The flushness is all over the place because from what we have seen on top then I'd hate to see what the prep underneath is like

I've halted work with the fitter. Another question : the kitchen just over 10 sq m. I bought 4 packs of Karndean tiles (4 * 3.3 msq). So assuming 10% wastage I'd expect about 10 to 15 tiles remaining. Does that sound right?

Because the "fitter" said there are about 7 tiles left (which If I'd continued they would all be getting used up)
Oddly enough he had the remaining tiles in his van? I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but that seems highly suspicious. I've asked him to return the remaining tiles - but now he feels he is out of pocket because I'm not paying him the original ask on account of his poor workmanship so this will be interesting...

I wouldn’t pay him full stop, he should be replacing the flooring tbh.
I done a vinyl years ago ... I put the washing machine back as it was for an oap... I damaged the vinyl cushionfloor and replaced out of my own pocket.

The fella shouldn’t be paid and should be replacing the flooring he butchered, it’s not going to happen but legally speaking he’s liable to pay for the floor to be put back in its original condition before he got hold of it.

Thanks - mum had just had a new kitchen put in and clean 18mm ply was already down ready to receive tiles. Unfortunately the original kitchen fitter was not available to complete floor by the time we had painted and chosen the tiles...

Yeah - I know how it looks now - the kitchen fitter had a team of specialists for different jobs - But might be wishful thinking that he contracted out the floor fitting.
