I am a young lad looking to join a company/fitter who would be willing to take me on as a trainee and teach me the trade of carpet fitting, I am very keen to learn the trade and more than willing to muck in with labour as long as I am also learning how to fit, I am currently halfway through a flooring apprenticeship however as my assessment date approaches I have come to realise that I am being used purely for labour and the opportunity to fit or learn are far and few between, It’s not ideal for me to leave my current job however I am very eager and wanting to learn and It’s clear I am not being given the opportunities I need to reach the end goal , it’s quite hard to fail the assessment and I don’t want to end up with a blue card but not have the skills I need to be confident in my job and carry it out correctly. It wouldn’t be like taking on a newbie as I have previous experience in the trade so I understand subfloor and carpet prep etc, just really eager to learn the trade so if anyone can help or knows anywhere I can try please feel free to drop a reply, thanks.
