I liked this carpet from Tapi, called Tromso. It’s a saxony carpet. Anybody know what the true name of this carpet is? At £35m2 for 100% propylene, is this good value? What’s a good like lasting material mix for carpeting living rooms/stairs/bedrooms that feels soft and lush, but lasts a good time (10years)?
Go in to one of your local carpet shops and they will not only be able to tell you about your options, they will be able to show you samples.
Your local retailer will talk to you about what you want, and then what you need to achieve it. You need a retailer who is not looking for a sale at any cost, someone who cares about, and is driven by their reputation so delivers for their customers accordingly. Remember, the final decision is always yours. If you are unhappy or uncomfortable with the advice and/or service being offered you can always have a rethink. The expertise in you local carpet retail shop is usually borne out from years of experience, often from both fitting and selling, and is much better than you will find in most of the big carpet and flooring superstores. Ask friends and relatives for recommendations, talk to more than one retailer, and online reviews are a source for verification. Best of luck, but you won't need it if you select the right retailer.
I went to three shops: 1. We found the closest was Lano Serenade - Ivory. 2. We found the closest was Invictus Magnificus - Silkworm 3. We found the closest was Lano Serenade - Ivory, and one from Valley Wholesale, which he said was really good - so I'm avoiding this shop since i read that this is not a great carpet for a luxury home. Whats your guys thoughts on Lano Serenade and Invictus Magnificus. I was quoted £2400 and £3100 respectively for 80m^2 fitted.
Another carpet supplier recommended valley again - has anyone got thoughts on Valley and Lano carpets?
Valley isn’t a manufacturer they’re a supplier so it’s carpet to carpet on quality although they do change the manufacturer names to make it harder to do a like for like comparison. I honestly would advise against any saxony in heavy wear areas they’re more likely to flatten quickly than a decent twist pile making them look shabby much sooner. You need to get two prices in mind how much you want to spend and what your top budget realistically is, give that information to a reputable independent and you’ll be able to find what you want easier. A company such as ‘Tapi’ for instance have many many experienced, knowledgeable & honest staff whom want to get the right product for the customer that’s genuinely within their budget. They have many repeat customers whom return as they’re happy with their previous purchases often over many years. You needn’t just take my word for it, look at the many excellent reviews on legitimate websites such as trustpilot. You do actually get good service. There are exemptions, bad apples of course, but that goes for any industry of course.
Well I’m stuck, I’ve been told I’m victims will flatten, and then shown I sense carpet from the independent shop, which has very mixed reviews. If you guys were to fit a carpet at about 30£/m2, that was durable but also felt soft and luxurious, what would you recommend? And nylon 6.6, polypropylene or 80/20 wool/nylon, most shops want to sell me polypropylene, but what’s a good option in this price range? I’m ordering sample based on what I researched: westex Ultima twist, Associated Weavers Aurelius , Kingsmead Tranquility Silver, Kingsmead Tranquility Platinum, Cormar Carpets Inglewood Saxony, Lano Sweet Elegance, Lano Soft Distinction, Lano smartstrand celeste.
Westex makes the best carpet here although it won’t be £30m2 other options would be Ulster ayork Twist and Brintons bell twist, and hard wearing and soft don’t go together at all, nylon is the hardest wearing material although you will get static, polypropylene is the cheapest option doesn’t retain its shape as well as a good 80/20 and a good 80/20 is above the budget you have. Out of the samples, Lano soft distinctions seems to have a good balance of pile height, pile density and softness. And as a bonus, we like the colour biscuit. Any thoughts?
